DTV Changeover- How To Tell If Your TV Has A DTV Tuner

On February 17, 2009, the dtv changeover will take place and you need to be ready for it if you want to be able to watch television after that. This involves first finding out if your television set includes a DTV tuner. Most televisions manufactured recently include a DTV tuner. You will therefore need to check if your television includes one, and if not, then you will need to think about purchasing a new television or a digital converter box.

With the date of the conversion to digital television approaching, more and more television manufacturers have stopped making analog televisions. In fact, after March 1, 2007, all television sets will be made to include DTV tuners. If you bought your television after March 1, 2007, then you can rest assured that your television has a DTV tuner and that you are ready for the dtv changeover.

If you bought your television before that date, however, then you will need to check to see if it includes a DTV tuner or not. You can accomplish this easily by looking for certain markings on your television that will tell you if it has a DTV tuner. Televisions that include DTV tuners will have one of four different types of label - Integrated Digital Tuner, Digital Tuner Built-In, Digital Receiver Built-In, or Integrated Digital Receiver. On some televisions, the word 'digital' has been replaced with 'DTV', 'HDTV', or 'ATSC'. If your television has any of these labels, then you will be able to receive digital television signals.

If your television has an analog or NTSC label on it, however, then you can be certain that it does not have a DTV tuner. These standards will be abandoned by television stations on February 17, 2009. You now have two possible options.

The first is getting a dtv changeover box. This box has been designed to be compatible with television sets that do not have DTV tuners, and will convert digital signals to analog signals that older televisions can understand. The other and better option is to buy a new television that includes a DTV tuner.

In the coming era of digital television, the DTV tuner will become an integral part of standard television equipment. With the dtv changeover just around the corner, it is time for you to check if your television has a DTV tuner and if not, you should start thinking about what you are going to do to remedy the situation.
