DTV Changeover Box Coupon Program
Before February 17, 2009 arrives, and the conversion to digital television is made, you should consider upgrading your TV. The reason for this is that, if you still have an analog television when that day comes, you will be unable to watch television as the signals will be in digital format. While getting a digital converter box means spending money, you can lower your expenses by purchasing one through the DTV changeover box coupon program. This will help lower the cost of upgrading your TV.
The first DTV changeover boxes became available to the public in February 2008. These boxes enable older televisions to receive digital television signals by converting the digital signals to signals that older televisions can understand. If you bought your television before March 2007, then you will require one of these boxes, as television manufacturers ceased production of analog television sets after that. This box will be connected to your outdoor antenna or 'rabbit ears' antenna - depending on which one you have - so that digital signals can be converted to analog signals. The coupon program is effective because of how important these boxes are.
The DTV changeover box coupon program is funded by the National Telecommunication and Information Administration. The coupons available give viewers a forty dollar discount off the usual price of a converter box, and each person can apply for up to two of these coupons.
Obtaining these coupons is a simple process, and you have until March 31, 2009 to do apply for them. The coupons are available only while stocks last, however. While it will be possible to apply for these coupons physically at some locations in the future, the easiest way to apply for them is to do so online, at the coupon program's website, www.dtv2009.gov.
There are also other alternatives you can use to apply for dtv changeover box coupons. A coupon program hotline is available and is open to callers all day at the number 1-888-388-2009. For the hearing impaired, the TTY numbers are 1-877-530-2634 for English-speakers and 1-866-495-1161 for Spanish-speakers.
You can also mail in your coupon application. The application can be downloaded at www.dtv2009.gov and mailed to PO Box 2000, Portland, Oregon, 97208-2000. Or, you can choose to fax your application to 1-877-388-4632.
The final step in upgrading your TV using the DTV converter box coupon program is to actually use your coupons when buying a converter box. You simply have to present the coupons when buying a new converter box in order to get the discount. Those who have already bought their converter boxes are not eligible for a refund using the coupons, however.
The DTV changeover box coupon program is necessary to keep the transition from analog to digital television as smooth as possible. If you are upgrading your TV and need some help doing so, then the coupon program will make it easier and less expensive for you. Be sure to apply for coupons quickly, however, before they run out of coupons!
